The following
are true stories sent in by today's caregivers:

I have been taking care of my 74-year-old mother full time for two
years now. I have plenty of brothers and sisters that could help me
from time to time but that would be too much for them.
I have moments of caregiver burnout but I would never not take care
of my mom. She has been through hell and back and deserves so much
more than she gets. She has heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes
(which is taking it's toll on her), her kidneys are failing so she's
just a hop, skip and a jump from dialysis, she has PAD, PVD, COPD,
gout, arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression and GAD (when not on medication),
recently had anemia and a UTI. She falls very easily, so I have to
be as close to her as possible at all times.
Of course to top all that off, I have a 7 year old that is very shy
and not wanting to go to school, a husband with bipolar and on the
verge of being an alcoholic. But all in all I am lucky, I have my son
and I still have my mom, I love them both with all my heart and I would
never think of turning my back on the woman who raised 10 children
without our father, my mother is a blessing not a burden.
